On March 12, 2013, Christian radio talkshow host and apologist Bob Dutko took the time to reply to the first video of my 10-part series, “Bob Dutko’s Top Ten Proofs for the Existence of God: And Why They Fail.” This first episode dealt with the claim Bob had made that the 1st law of thermodynamics and the creation of the universe combine to provide proof (not merely a suggestion) that God exists.

In that video, I referred viewers to physicists Victor Stenger, Stephen Hawking and Lawrence Krauss for a detailed discussion of the science behind Dutko’s claim and why that claim fails; and then I went on to show additional failures with Dutko’s claim even if we provisionally allow that some sort of supernatural force was responsible for the “big bang.” I pointed out that just saying “Goddidit” does not establish WHICH supernatural force was responsible for the creation of the universe. I also stressed that “cause and effect” in our universe is governed by certain fundamental laws. If this supernatural force was what created our universe, HOW was it possible for an immaterial, non-temporal “entity” to actually interact with space, time, matter and energy? Not being able to sufficiently answer such questions is why merely asserting “Goddidit” is unpersuasive and a failure at establishing the apologetic claim.

In Dutko’s response, which is addressed in this current video, he accused me of all sorts of “debate tricks and tactics.” However, it was he who failed to understand my reference to the physics behind the big bang and continued to merely assert that “Goddidit” is a sufficient answer for how this supernatural force created a material universe. I address, in great detail, these failures as well as respond to Bob’s insistence that non-theists have a “faith” in atheism as well as his invitation to appear on his Friday call-in program. I will leave it up to the viewer to decide who is the more guilty of “debate tricks and tactics.”
